Japan Salary Calc is a free, English-language take-home-pay (手取り) calculator for foreign workers in Japan. You enter a gross (額面) salary and it itemizes every deduction — 健康保険, 厚生年金, 雇用保険, 所得税, 住民税 — so you can see what actually reaches your bank account, and the year-two 住民税 drop most new arrivals never see coming.
How we source the rates
Every rate carries a dated official source in our data file: the 協会けんぽ prefecture health-insurance table and 介護 rate (FY2026), 厚生年金 18.3% (日本年金機構), 雇用保険 employee rate (厚生労働省), the income-tax brackets and deductions (国税庁), and the 住民税 components (総務省). The fiscal year is stated on-page.
What it simplifies (and says so)
The itemization is the point, so the simplifications are stated plainly in an on-page methodology note: premiums are applied to salary directly rather than the banded 標準報酬月額 (though the ¥650,000 pension cap is applied), and it uses standard deductions only — no life-insurance, iDeCo, medical, or mortgage deductions, and no 年末調整 fine-tuning. Your real payslip will differ slightly; confirm with your employer's HR.
No ads on the tool
The calculator result carries no commercial links, on purpose — it's the trust engine. Any sponsored links live only in the job-change guides, clearly disclosed, and only for the audience they realistically serve (Japanese-language 転職 services).
